Lewis County Community to Celebrate "National Day of Prayer"

The annual "National Day of Prayer" celebration will take place May 6, 2004. This year in Lewis County there will be four special events celebrating this call for prayer, focusing on goverment, media, education, church and families.

The day begins at 8:00 a.m. with a buffet breakfast at Aunt Patty's Colonial Restaurant on Main Street in Weston to honor local pastors, city and county officals. The speaker will be Lt. Quint Pitts, Chaplain, US Navy. At noon, a prayer service will be held at the Lewis County Courthouse. Please RSVP to 269-5971 or 269-1739 by April 30th, 2004.

Local youth groups will conduct a prayer walk at 5:30 p.m. ending at the Lewis County Park where an evening service and other activites will be held. We as a church youth group will not be participating due to the Mother-Daughter-Banquet being scheduled the same day. However, if any youth are interested in participating, please contact John Posey @ 269-2515.

WestonFBC participated by giving a $50.00 donation to offset the cost of breakfast. Michael Mick thanks us and God for the opportunity to be part of this work and special day. If interested, make checks payable to St. Matthews's UM Church for personal donations.

This day has been a vital part of our country's history as the first Continental Congress called for a National Day of Prayer. Abraham Lincoln called for such a day. Congress established National Day of Prayer in 1952 and President Regan designated the first Thursday in May each year. Let's come together and make this an unforgetable day in Lewis County history.
