Dr. David Carrico will be the evangelist for this year’s revival service. Dr. Carrico is currently the executive minister of the WV Baptist Convention in Parkersburg of which FBC is affiliated.

 
Dr. Al Washburn will again be the music director. He will be organist as well as director of the Revival Choir.

Dr. Al Washburn, Allison Miller’s father, is a native of North Carolina. He is currently retired and living with his wife, Sylvia, in Jacksonville, FL, where he previously served as Minister of Music and Organist at First United Methodist Church. He has served as minister of music and organist in various denominations in Florida, Louisiana, Kentucky, Georgia and California. He held the post of Professor of Music at Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, GA, for 13 years. 

Dr. Washburn is a graduate of Stetson University in Deland, FL, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in church music and organ performance. He earned three degrees at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary culminating in the D.M.A. degree. He has also studied abroad at Kaiserslautern, Germany, was a Research Scholar at International Baptist Seminary in Ruschlikon, Switzerland, and has attended seminars at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ.

The Rev. Dr. David L. Carrico, a 1969 graduate of Alderson-Broaddus College, received the Master of Divinity from Crozer/Colgate Rochester Divinity School and his Doctorate in Ministry from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1983. 

Dr. Carrico currently serves as the executive minister of the WV Baptist Convention, which has 400 churches and close to 80,000 members. He was the senior pastor of the First Baptist Church in Beckley, WV, a post he held from 1989-2005. Before that he served pastorates in Clarksburg and Huntington, WV; Utica, NY; and youth ministries in Philadelphia, PA and in Beckley, WV.
Dr. Carrico’s extensive community commitments also reflect a strong Christian engagement. He was co-founder and board member of the Health Right Clinic in Beckley, co-chair of the Spirit of Beckley Award Committee and a member of the distribution committee of the Beckley Area Foundation. For 16 years he served as a fireman and chaplain of the Ghent Volunteer fire Department in Ghent, WV. He has served as chaplain for the VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, for the Nutter Fort Fire Department, for United Hospital Center, and for the Huntington Fire Department in Huntington, WV. He is a charter member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, and was voted Citizen of the Year by the Clarksburg Jaycess. He was a recipient, with his wife, Janey, of the S. Ward and Evangel Robinson Ministerial Team Award at AB College. 
Dr. Carrico and his wife Janey, a 1970 graduate of AB College, are the parents of five adult children: Timothy, Matthew, Adam, Lisa and Amy. The Carrico’s have six grandchildren.

The American Red Cross has issued a CRITICAL appeal for blood donations. Currently, there is a critical blood shortage in our region and across the nation. In May and June, donations were at the lowest level the Red Cross has seen in this timeframe in over a dozen years, while demand for blood products remained steady. Because of that, the Red Cross needs blood donors now more than ever. All types are needed, but especially 0 negative.

Supplies of 0 negative are at emergency levels nationally which means they have less than a day and half supply. Type 0 negative is vital to the blood supply because anyone can be transfused with it no matter his or her blood type if there is no time to type and cross match his or her blood. It can be used for babies, trauma patients, etc. Type 0 negative is carried on the life flight helicopters because it can be given to anyone. ALL other blood types are on the CRITICAL list! The public is urged to donate blood now! Lives depend on it!

The American Red Cross is conducting a blood drive at First Baptist Church in Weston on Tuesday, August 9, from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Mark your calendar!!

YOUTH EASTER PROGRAM 2011

Deanna Clark.... has been busy with preparations for the children’s Easter program to be presented on Sunday evening, April 17, at 7:00 pm.  She has a program that includes all age groups- preschoolers up through high school. 

The preschoolers will participate in a presentation entitled “EASTER”.  The elementary age group will present a skit called “The Easter Bunny’s Story:  The Real Story” by Diana Brown.  Ms. Brown is a Sunday school teacher who  wrote this play after trying to explain the real meaning of Easter to her class.  The Easter Bunny appears with the presentation of the real meaning of Easter.

The older youth will perform on-stage the actions of the video story of “Ribbons Every Breath You Take”  which conveys the Gospel message.

There will be dress rehearsal, pizza luncheon, and Easter party/egg hunt here at the church on Saturday, April 16, at 10:30 am for all those participating in the Easter program.

Vacation Bible School is June 17th- June 21st 6:00pm - 8:30pm "Avalanche Ranch - A wild ride through God’s word" is the theme this year. Those wishing to wear t-shirts with a VBS iron-on transfer should bring a red t-shirt with name on it by Friday, June 8th and leave in the kindergarten classroom.

Sago Mine Assistance Fund

The tree is located in the education hallway waiting to be decorated with mittens, scarves, toboggans.
Deadline is Wednesday, December 15.  Items will be donated to Our Neighbor to be given to needy children in Lewis County. 

 FBC will have a fund-raiser luncheon for Keith Myers, recently commissioned missionary to Mexico, who will be our guest. Volunteers have planned a Mexican luncheon to be served at 10:30 in Fellowship Hall. Everyone is invited to attend and show our traditional FBC support!!

Evening Service

 For the evening service on that Sunday we will have the Georgetown College Chorale from Georgetown College, Kentucky. They have included FBC in the “Spring 2012 Tour”. It is a great opportunity to have such a distinguished chorale come to our church. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

Hey Kids!!!  It’s VBS Time!!!

Climb aboard for the Voyage of a Lifetime!  It’s time to set sail on an exciting “High Seas” adventure; feel sea spray on your face as sails snap overhead.  You will plunge through rugged waves – and experience the deep, rolling waters of God’s love and more here at First Baptist Church.  Vacation Bible School will be Sunday, June 13, through Thursday, June 17, here at FBC. The picnic will be Friday, June 18, at Fisher Baptist Camp. 

Anyone who would like to help with VBS this year, may contact Deanna Clark at 269-7410, or just come out on the 13^th.  All help is appreciated.  Please bring a t-shirt (any color) and leave it in the Pre- K/Kindergarten classroom and the “High Seas” logo will be applied for you.  There will be classes from Pre-K through 8^th grade and adult classes every evening.  Bring your friends and explore the mighty Love of God.

The Youth Pastor Search Committee has interviewed a candidate for the position of Youth Pastor. His name is Eric Kendall who is a WVU graduate and a current seminary student. He is working toward attaining a Master of Divinity Degree through Palmer Theological Seminary.

Eric is 25 years old and married. To be so young, he has acquired an extensive amount of experience in the ministry field. He has spent countless hours working with youth as a counselor at Camp Cowen and as Volunteer Youth Intern at Simpson Creek Baptist Church in Bridgeport. 

At Simpson Creek Baptist Church, he has worked closely with the youth pastor to develop programs and events for youth. He has also taught Sunday School as well as Sunday evening Bible studies. Eric has helped evaluate potential new curriculum for youth Sunday School programming. He comes with outstanding references and is highly qualified for this position.

Eric and his wife were here at FBC on Sunday evening, February 26, to give members the opportunity to meet him and ask any questions on their minds. His employment will be voted on at the next business meeting scheduled for March 7. All members are encouraged to attend this very important meeting in the life of our church.

Individual photos have been taken, layout is in process, and next will be a group photo. The photographer will be here July 25 at 11:45 am to take a group photo of the congregation in the sanctuary.  There will be no early service on that day to give everyone the opportunity to be in the group picture.

The Lewis County members of Chanticleer Choir will perform during morning worship service. There are seven LC members of the choir. Our church will have a hot dog luncheon served after morning worship service as a fund-raiser to help with expenses for their up-coming summer trip to the European countries of Austria and Germany.

Volunteers are needed to receive and pack shoe boxes during these hours.  The truck will leave
shortly after 3 pm to deliver the shoe boxes to Bridgeport.  All help is greatly appreciated. 

FBC is a member of the Great Lakes Region.  They are pleased to announce that there are now 360 Relay Centers with 50 of those being new this year.  They now have 46 Collection Centers.  Historically, the addition of one new Relay Center translates into new shoeboxes never before collected. As you know, new shoeboxes translates into additional gospel opportunities.  It is estimated a third of all recipients of shoeboxes come to invite Jesus into their hearts and becomed saved. Your service for the Lord will impact hundreds of thousands of children/families as a door to the gospel is opened through the shoebox gifts.

Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty

Neighbors from different faiths, cultures, and ages, walk together to take a stand against hunger in our world.  Together we raise awareness and funds for international relief and development, as well as local hunger-fighting agencies.  Some 2000 communities across the country take part each year.

 Please contact Connie Gainer or Kathy Shackleford to join FBC team to participate in the walk or to give a donation.  Those attending are asked to bring a can or two of food to be given to Our Neighbor to distribute to those in need locally.  Also, 25% of the donations will stay in Lewis County.  Our Neighbor is a valuable asset in our county.  They assist the needy in many ways.
