If you can believe it, I am more excited about shoe boxes this year than ever! The trip to Paraguay has renewed my passion for Operation Christmas Child and I know how happy and grateful the children are when they receive their shoe boxes.
Facts about Operation Christmas Child
Since 1993, OCC, the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind, has collected and delivered more than 135 million gift-filled shoe boxes to children in more than 150 countries and territories.
For many of these children, the gift-filled shoe box is the first gift they have ever received.
In 2016, OCC hopes to collect enough shoe box gifts to reach another 12 million children.
2015 collection totals: more than 11.2 million (global) and more than 8.7 million (US).
Shoe box gifts are collected in the US, Australia, Finland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, Spain and the UK.
More than 500,000 volunteers worldwide – with more than 150,000 of those in the US, are involved in collecting, shipping, and distributing shoe boxes.
OCC is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. Samaritan’s Purse currently works in more than 100 countries to provide aid to victims of war, disease, disaster, poverty, famine and persecution.
Start praying over your shoe box and then if you packed one box last year, pack 2 or 3 this year.
We need you to volunteer! Our church is a Relay Center and will be accepting shoe boxes during November 14-20. Hours will be M-F 4:30-7pm. Saturday, 12 noon – 5pm and Sunday – 1-3 pm. On this day we take the cartons and load them in a tractor trailer in Bridgeport. We need people to help us load those at 2 pm. Volunteers are needed all week long. Prayers and packers are needed. Thank you! God bless! Get packin’!
