Mitten Tree

Posted on Sun, Dec 12, 2010:

FBC will again have a Mitten Tree in the education hallway to collect mittens, gloves, toboggans, etc. for Our Neighbor to distribute to needy children in Lewis County. They do a wonderful service for our community and all help is appreciated. In the past, the Salvation Army shared moneys collected in their kettles at Christmas time.

They no longer share any of those collections. In years past, churches furnished volunteers to handle the Salvation Army Kettles with no charge to the Salvation Army; however, that no longer happens.

They now have paid employees to manage the kettles and churches no longer are involved. And they no longer send financial assistance to Our Neighbor. Hopefully, churches and individuals will make up for the loss because Our Neighbor is a valuable asset in our community. They continuously help many needy individuals and families in Lewis County.
