Have you recently noticed the parade of new purses in our congregation? Have you inquired as to how and where they were purchased? Well, according to those who boosted the economy in Chinatown, "What goes on in New York, stays in New York!"
On Thursday night, April 12th, forty-four First Baptist Church members and friends loaded a chartered bus and headed for the "Big Apple." Traveling all night, we arrived at our hotel, the Milford Plaza, at approximately 6:30 a.m. After checking in we talked with the concierge at the front desk where we got maps and tickets for the NYC bus tour. One day in "The City That Never Sleeps" is not long enough. We tried to hit most of the major tourist attractions including the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Ground Zero, Central Park, and Rockefeller Plaza (where some were on the Today Show and shook Al Roker’s hand). We did a little shopping along the way at stores like Tiffany’s, The Nintendo Store, the M & M store, the CBS store, and others. To be honest, you don’t have to shop in stores, you can get anything you want from street vendors. After a full day of site-seeing and people watching in Times Square, some of us took in a Broadway Show. Some in our group took in The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, Hairspray, and Phantom of the Opera. We awoke the next morning to pack up our suitcases and head home. The bus ride home found some talking, sleeping, singing, and/or watching DVDs. Anna Posey took a calculator and added up our purchases. Anyone want to venture a guess?
