Rev. Miller Reports on the Annual Meeting

Posted on Sun, Nov 6, 2005

WORKING GROUP

I know that many of you are concerned about what really took place in Clarksburg last week (Oct 18-19,2005) at the West Virginia Baptist Convention.

While the convention delegates did vote in favor of staying with the American Baptist Churches, there is a new working group which will study our existing relationship with the ABC. Please continue to pray for the ABC, the WVBC and for this working group. May God grant us all guidance and clarity as we seek his path for our convention and our churches in West Virginia.

Sincerely, Ken

Action of the Executive Board of the

West Virginia Baptist Convention:

The President and the Executive Minister of the West Virginia Baptist Convention appoint a working group to pursue the facts and options concerning the West Virginia Baptist Convention's future relationship with the American Baptist Churches, USA. This working group will report to each Executive Committee and Executive Board meeting in 2006, and present a final review to the Annual Meeting in 2006. We believe this is necessary for the continuing health and growth of the West Virginia Baptist Convention. This working group should consider, but is not limited to, the following items:

(Adopted 9/10/05)

Legal procedures required facilitating a change of status with the ABC/USA and the legal ramifications of any action.

The possibility of and possible arrangements for continuing relationships with like-minded regions of the ABC/USA and with missionaries and their sending agencies following any change of relationship.

The status of institutions and groups currently functioning within our WVBC structure, such as AB Women's Ministries, AB Men and Boys, Weirton Christian Center, Alderson-Broaddus College, Foundation for Campus Ministry, WV Baptist Education Society, WV Baptist Ministers' Council, etc. and how these might continue to function effectively following any change of status.

Legal status of endowments, trusts and other funds entrusted to or earmarked for the WVBC and/or its related groups.

Constitutional changes required for a change of relational status with ABC/USA and how that will impact upon local associations and church constitutions.

The possibility of and channels for continuing involvement in the ABC/USA for those churches currently within the WVBC who desire to not be a part of any change of status with ABC/USA.
