GO GLOBAL

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope." (Romans 15:13 RSV)

Christians are people of hope, and I'm sure you'll agree that right now, more than ever, our world needs the hope that comes from faith in Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul told new Christians in Rome that he wanted them not just to have hope, but to abound in hope. You and I have hope in plenty, hope running over, hope spilling out all over the place as a gift of God through the power of the Holy Spirit. Isn't that great news?

During October, our church family will focus on this hope, and how God uses us to spread hope throughout the world. God has designed the church --- our church --- to be a beacon of hope to people in our community, our city, our state, our nation, and our world. In other words, as disciples of Jesus won't just have hope we are hope.

We encourage you to join us in two things during this month. First, set aside some special time to pray that God would show you how to be more involved in sharing hope. Our church supports many ministries, and all of them in one way or another are there to help others see and accept the hope and light of Jesus into their lives. Those ministries are to people as close as our backyard, and as relevant as what is happening on the other side of the world. Ask God to use you to share hope, and you'll discover that you will abound in hope yourself.

Second, join us in preparing a special gift to this global mission of hope through the WORLD MISSION OFFERING where our Christian Education Board has set a goal at $2,000. Our church has joined with other American Baptist churches to multiply our resources for world mission through the missionaries and ministries we support at International Ministries. Let us ask God to show us how we can make a sacrificial gift during October by using the envelope enclosed so that others may abound in hope, too. It will be rewarding to see how God will teach, guide, and use us through this special focus on sharing hope.
