Operation Christmas Child November Update

Posted on Wed, Nov 5, 2008

Operation Christmas Child 2008 will soon be upon us. FBC is in the process of making final plans for our Relay Center activities. We need workers for the collection week of Monday, November 17 through Sunday the 23rd. We will have the church open Monday through Friday during the hours of 12 noon to 7 pm. Saturday and Sunday hours will be 1 to 5 pm. As local churches drop off their boxes, we will pack them in to cartons and attach a label. Then on Monday, November 24th,  they will be transported to the Collection Center in Morgantown.
We need volunteers to serve as greeters and assist with intake forms. We will need kitchen help to serve light refreshments. And most importantly, volunteers will be needed to assist with unloading shoe boxes and packing them into cartons.
OCC not only provides a gift to a needy child, it brings eternal hope to many who  would not otherwise hear the Gospel. When we fill our box, we are to close the lid and secure it with a rubber band because when these boxes go to the warehouse in Boone, NC, they are opened and a pamphlet entitled “The Greatest Gift of All” is laid on top of your gifts. This has the message of salvation printed in the language of the country where that particular box will be distributed. Thousands have accepted Christ as Lord and Savior because they received the Gospel message in a shoe box.
Just think – your shoe box might be the instrument that God uses to reach a lost soul; maybe the child who receives it, maybe the parent or sibling - and just maybe the entire family. This has happened many times. We fill the shoe box with small gifts, but God turns it into a spiritual gift with eternal rewards. As you prepare your box, remember to pray for the child who will receive it. God has worked miracles with these boxes, and I am sure He will continue to do so. Everyone is encouraged to get involved with this project. Most of us will never personally go on a mission trip, but we can send that little box that will serve as the instrument that opens the door for God to reach thousands who have never heard the Gospel.
