Stitches of Love Yard Party
Donate to the Stitches of Love Yard Party and you become a participant in the
 Christian Women Sewing for Love,
an interdenominational group spreading love.
Purpose: Provide hand sewn items to nursing homes, in-home care patients, children who are victims of family violence, and children who are cold and in need of a blanket or quilt for warmth and a loving boost of encouragement.
Items include handmade lap quilts, youth quilts, bibs for adults, wheel chair and walker caddies, crocheted or knitted lap quilts, booties or items suitable for caring for an adult or disabled child. In addition, we need good blankets and tote bags donated.
The items will be distributed through established organizations such as, Home Health, Family Violence Centers serving Lewis and UpshurCounties, school personnel who know of children who are cold in the winter, and Social Workers at DHHR, who are working with abuse victims, both children and adults.
A label with a prayer will be attached to the item donated. In addition to the prayer a child being placed in Foster Care will have his/her name on the label which will also include the following generic acknowledgment, “From Christian Women Sewing for Love. Lewis/Upshur Counties.”
The following churches are participating:
-Freeman’s CreekBaptistChurch
-St. Patrick’s Catholic Church
-BroadRunBaptistChurch
-St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
-St. Matthew United MethodistChurch
-West Buckhannon United MethodistChurch
-Stonecoal United MethodistChurch
-Gee Lick United MethodistChurch
-FirstBaptistChurch of Weston
Another way to participate is by sewing and donating the finished product. Individuals can sign up to sew, indicate their area of interest, and request the materials needed, and those materials will be provided. Participants can complete the item individually at home or work along with friends in a group setting.
Every church has a contact person who will be responsible for collecting material and monetary donations. Kim Biller is our contact person and may be reached at 269-3534. She has placed a wicker basket in the Education Wing for collection of materials.
FBC has designated April as Yard Party Month.
At the end of the month, Kim will send the items to the  CountyCoordinator for Christian Women Sewing for Love for distribution. When those materials have been exhausted, another drive will be conducted.
